From passive pennies to passive millions!

I'm not really making anything right now. But I want to change that.

Passive income is the new cool thing. I mean, it kind of always was, but today, the options are open to everyone. So I told myself, that instead of trying to come up with the next big thing and reading all this hustle porn on medium, I'm just going to start small and see what happens — this is the beginning of my adventure.

Passive income adventure begins!

Totally passive, bandwidth pennies

I've tried 2 apps / services that make use of your bandwidth (typically when you don't really need it) and pay you for it. Those are Honeygain and Earnapp. Both apps run in background on and are very easy to setup. The money comes from companies that ask you to anonymously send them for example localized web searches. No selling of your user data!

The upside is, that it's totally passive and you can forget about it. It's not going to make us millions, but we are just trying to start somehow!

Honeygain | $0.33–0.5/GB

I'm going to start with Honeygain, just because it pays a tiny bit better in my area. It rewards you with honeygain bits — 1000 bits are worth exactly $1. For sharing 10MB of your bandwidth, you get 3 bits. That amounts to about $0.33 per 1GB shared.

My Honeygain earnings for ~10 days

Apart from $5 sign up bonus that everyone gets, the credits are coming up slowly. I made almost $0.5 on my strongest day, but usually it's less. Also the payout threshold is $20.

CRYPTO ELEMENT | You can get 50% more Honeygain earnings by connecting your crypto wallet and earning in JMPT token (beta program bonus, lasts until September 2022). It's a pretty easy setup, worth it in my opinion, because there is no payment threshold!

If you like Honeygain, you can use my referral link — it rewards me 10% of your earnings on top of what you make — it does not cost you anything!

EarnApp | $0.1–0.5/GB

The amount EarnApp pays you per gigabyte shared depends on your location. Rates range from $0.5 (USA) to $0.1 for most of other states. I'm from Czech Republic and we have the low rates here, unfortunately.

EarnApp bandwidth usage in Czech Republic with a Raspberry Pi

The main reason I gave EarnApp a shot is, that it's very easy to setup on Linux — namely Raspberry Pi. I had one sitting in my drawer and it has at least a tiny purpose like this :)

In the ~10 days or so of running this small experiment, my Raspberry shared 4.44GB of data. On its strongest day, it was around 900MB! It runs constantly on my shelf, just sitting on my shelf. EarnApp has only $5 payout threshold — much lower than Honeygain's $20. If you don't feel like doing this for a long time, EarnApp may be quicker to cash out from (again, depending on your location) (Also Honeygain's crypto program with no threshold kinda wins here too).

If you like EarnApp, you can use my referral link. You are awesome!

Writing on Medium — let's do this together!

This will be my another shot on making money online. It's not really passive, I know, but I've never done anything like it and I want to try! The idea is to build a catalogue of articles, build a following and that will then be working for you day and night.

You should try it too! Let's go into this together. Grab a thing you recently found out, cool concept you want to explore, problem that you solved, and write about it!

I will be writing here some more in the future, if you like my writing, let me know by clapping for this story and following! Also if you decide to write an article after reading this one, let me know with a comment — I will make sure to read it!

Cheers!
